I got a new toy, and all of the components are now here. I wanted a heart rate monitor for running, so I could use that as a way to keep track of progress instead of just with time. Of course, I can’t get something that just simply does heart rate because I’m me and I like toys. After a lot of reading and some advice from other beginning runners, I got a Garmin Forerunner 305. I got the footpod accessory for my indoor runs. It fits perfectly in my Nike+ slot. I gave it a little test run up the street just to see it work. It recorded my info, transferred it to my laptop, and provided me with some graphs of my short run, including showing where I was on a map. I’ll test the footpod and heart rate monitor tomorrow.

Then I came inside for a Piña Colada and basketball. My BIL’s sister came for a visit from Columbia and brought rum. Mac made virgin coladas for the kids. Ada said it was the most yummy drink ever.

I got my V-Day present from Mac. Early, but I’ll be glad to have it next week. He got me a new bluetooth headset to replace the old Jabara headset that I had and quit using a long time ago. It kept unpairing with the phone, and it was too big for my ear and not adjustable, so I had to hold it on.

I now have a Plantronics 925* headset. It has three sizes of eartips, the middle one keeps it in my ear, but it starts to feel slightly uncomfortable after a bit. I may try the smallest one. It also has multipoint, so it is paired with my laptop and my iPhone. We tested it today to see what kind of range I can get. I connected it to my laptop and sat on our bed. Mac carried my laptop around the house. Once he took it into the basement, it started getting static, but I could still hear it. I tried to answer a call with it, but it didn’t work. However, I accidentally pressed the button while I was putting it in the charging case, and my phone started dialing Mac, so it will control the phone. I can use it to listen to music, but it quite monotone, and after a bit, it bothers my ear just like all the other ear buds I’ve ever tried to use. It will work great for calls without being tied to cables and that mute button that I frequently press by accident. And if I wear it during the day while I’m working, I’ll know when my phone is ringing because it will beep in my ear. The biggest drawback of not having a landline is that I miss calls because my phone is charging in the other room or in my bag, and I don’t hear it. Just like the Rock Chalk call I missed the other day.

*Thankfully, it wasn’t the price listed on that site. Don’t buy it from there.

Day 88: Hello House Clutter!

It is my own fault. I bought this for Ada as a present on St. Paddy’s Day. It was a suprise Hello Kitty figure. I didn’t know which design it was going to be until we opened the box. Ada has a small love for Hello Kitty. At least, she gets really excited when she sees Hello Kitty stuff. She doesn’t have a massive collection, but so far it contains:

A Hello Kitty crayon holder

Her Build-A-Bear has Hello Kitty panties.

A play Hello Kitty cellphone

Hello Kitty stickers

Hello Kitty egg decorating kit for Easter.

A Hello Kitty t-shirt

The origami bird Hello Kitty figure

Hello Kitty electric toothbrush

Hello Kitty toothpaste

Hello Kitty bubblebath

Hello Kitty drinking cup

The bad thing is that there is so much Hello Kitty stuff out in the world that her collection could become massive. If I let it.

I also picked up another monkey cup for the kids. My mom said that the number of kids cups is going to outnumber the adult cups soon. But Target keeps shelving kids cups. They are plastic. They have cute things on them. They are plastic. They are cheap. They are plastic. I almost grabbed James a straw lobster cup. It is plastic. I’m now wishing I had. Plastic.
