Working again!

May 30th, 2005

Okay, I’ve got this working again. I may cross-post my LJ posts here.

Small Update

March 7th, 2005

Looking at this site this morning, I realized that I’m not going to find the time to get comments working, especially since I have to block spam comments. MT does have TypeKey that can be used with the commenting system, but it would require you to register with a third party. If I wanted registration only comments, I’d prefer to house the registration info myself. So, given that I’m busy incubating a small human, I just took all comment stuff down.

In the meantime, you can comment via the LiveJournal RSS feed account. Since this isn’t an actual user account, there is no e-mail address tied to it, so I don’t get e-mail when somebody comments. There is a chance I may not see your comment if I forget to look. Maybe I’ll get back to the XML-RPC crossposting to my LJ account that I started doing this time last year before I distracted myself with something better.

I sat on my butt most of the weekend, and when I wasn’t doing that, I was lying down. I did make it to Kansas City for a family dinner on Saturday, and headed outside for a little bit on Sunday. Sunday was get finance info together day, and Tuesday is tax appointment day. The thunderstorm Sunday evening was enjoyable. It made me really excited for Spring.

I just freshly installed this for Haf to familiarize himself with, and I thought I would open it up for anybody who wants to bring comments/chatting back to stuology. Since I’m also playing with it, don’t be surprised if it breaks from time to time.

Go to MonkeyTalk!*

*I just added this to DNS, so if it isn’t resolving, then give it time.

Outage and stuff

July 12th, 2004

Okay, the outage that caused the server to be unavailable has been resolved. So, stuology is back.

I made a small post to my LJ account. Read it here.

Oh, link thanks to Bella: Join the Browncoats. I can’t wait for this movie!

Can You Resolve Me Now?

June 18th, 2004

My traffic is picking up as everybody is able to resolve stuology.net (and all my companion domains for this site) after the DNS change. The comment system will be up again, but probably not until next week, if that. You can leave comments for me in my LJ RSS Feed. I won’t get the by e-mail, but I’m my own friend, so I’ll probably notice them. I have a wonderful weekend ahead, but will probably be disconnected most of the time. Next week will be work and getting ready for my trip to New York. I leave a week from today!

Déjà Vu

June 18th, 2004

Apparently, LJ went crazy with my rss feed. It probably has something to do with the fact that I switched DNS over to my new server. I’m guessing LJ thought it was all brand new when it resolved to my new IP. It wasn’t.

Weekend activities? Saturday afternoon will be spent shopping, I think. Split Lip Rayfield, Guided By Voices, BR549, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many others are playing at the Wakarusa Festival. Dodge Ball opens this weekend, although I’m not sure that I wouldn’t rather want to wait to rent it. The Stepford Wives and Troy are unseen movies. Sellout is still listed as playing at The Jazzhaus, but there is some talk that has been cancelled.

Today is a work from home day, although most of my work will be organizing and packing up some of my house. I hate the packing up part of moving, but it does give me an opportunity to simplify my life a little. I love the unpacking part of moving because everything gets organized and tidy–for a short time :)

Moving Soon

June 16th, 2004

Just a word that Stuology, the last of my sites to move to the new server, will be transitioning shortly, although it may be without the ability to comment for a bit. Lots of changes going on recently that have kept me occupied, but happily occupied.

Bad thing for this week: One of the network operations techs for the company I worked for died in an accident while working a power restoration. I didn’t know him since I work for corporate and he worked in one of the field offices in one of the seven states we provide gas/electric too. I did have to remove him from all call out lists and crews to be dispatched for electrical outages. This is the first tech that has died from an accident while I’ve been working for this company. The really sad part is he had just gotten back from vacation he took last week for the birth of his son.

Good for this week (thanks to MB): Really funny commercial (with monkey).

A new ice cream joint opened up yesterday, which I got to go to thanks to the keen eye of Bella. They have a really good monkey flavor*.

Now, catch up on quizzes and such:

I’ve made a couple of changes to Stuology. I added my menu header, but it only has one section up so far. I updated the About section a little, but it is from the old MLK FAQ and one of the very first Stuology sites. I also added the most recent comments on the right, but I discovered yet another bug in MovableType. Since I’ve started really working with the code, my opinion of MT went from about an 9/10 to a 7/10. So, the date that it says the comment is made is actually the date of the entry that the comment was made in. The only way I can get it to display the date of the comment will prevent me from making a link to the comment, which defeats the purpose. Oh well, just click on it, and it should take you to that comment. I haven’t searched MT’s support forums for it yet either, it could be an already known and easily fixable thing.

LiveJournal

January 3rd, 2004

I created a LiveJournal Account with the hopes for crossposting posts here to LJ. It also means since I’m registered, I can comment on people’s LJ posts.

I went ahead and updated Stuology with what I have finished so far. I decided if I didn’t, I would fiddle with it forever and it would never get updated. This is the first update in *years*.

I’ve switched to using MovableType instead of programming my own. Now I can just start writing plug-ins for MT. For those who I host, if you want MT set up for your site, just send me an e-mail and I’ll get you set up.
