Saturday reminder

March 21st, 2008

Public reminder for family members that read this: We are having an “Easter” get together on Saturday. Yes, tomorrow. People are welcome to come over around 3:30. We will eat around 6:00pm and watch the KU/UNLV game which starts at about the same time. I’m probably going to order pizza.

There seems to have been a huge non-communication about this on Mac and my part. Sorry. I’ll even call people.

Have I been good enough?

Question: What would you want to give your favorite math geek for the holidays?

Oh, how I wish this was true. I didn’t want to come back to the real world; the office-in-a-box world; the stop-questioning-by-change-requests-you-annoying-dba world; the no-matter-how-much-you-honk-your-horn-mr-man-behind-me-the-stuck-bus-a-block-ahead-isn’t -going-to-move-any-faster world; No, I wanted to stay in the sleeping-on-a-cloud-to-the-smell-of-roses-beautiful-wooden-with-leather-accent-bed world; the large-soothing-bubble-chromathearpy-moonlight-hitting-the-water-through-the-window-warm-jet-tub world; the cheese-blitz-strawberry-coffee-cinnamon-roll-orange-juice-breakfast-on-a-marble-table world.

For Valentine’s, I got Mac a gift with the Valentine he got me last year on it. I also reserved a room at Chateau Avalon. The room came with champagne*, roses, chocolate, big comfy robes, breakfast, and a Crabtree & Evelyn spa set. We got back in town from Hutchinson on Sunday, so I had to unpack and do laundry Sunday night, and then pack an overnight bag and his VD present on Monday morning and load it into the SUV without him seeing. The fun part was having to wait until he was done with items that he uses to get ready for work and swiping them and carrying them out to the SUV when we left without him knowing what I was doing. I picked him up at work 30 minutes early, told him that we weren’t going home and drove him out to check-in. We enjoyed our room for a little bit, and then went out for dinner, and then back to the room for the rest of the night. It was supposed to be a relaxing night for him, but truth be told, I got just as much relaxation out of it as he did.

*And Sprite for me

Hugs, smooches and such

February 14th, 2005

This morning was fun driving through downtown KC trying to dodge all the flower delivery trucks blocking traffic. My favorite was the big guy delivering flowers with his pants falling down. Nothing says “I love you” more than getting flowers from a big guy with half of his hairy ass showing.

I woke up this morning to a VD present on my kitchen table. Chocolate and a super-soft monkey–two presents that can never be wrong when I’m involved. I also go three other wonderful surprises.

Fantasia Mathematica - A collection of stories and poems all with math as a theme. When I can’t sleep, I’m always asking Mac to tell me a story. He says he doesn’t know any, although he will make some up sometimes that leave me laughing. Now he says he can just grab this book and read me a story.

How To Teach Your Baby Math - A book about a method to teach your baby the concepts of math without needing the concept of numbers. He got this for me because he knew I would probably be trying to teach Ada math early on.

And the best yet because he remembered that I wanted one of these really badly for Valentine’s Day last year (warning, you may not like the language): a teddy bear*. I was completely shocked that he remembered this. I never even talked about this bear since we’ve been together.

I haven’t had a Valentine’s Day in a long time that has been really special**. This one has been spectacular so far, and it isn’t the physical items that I received, but the fact that Mac went out of his way to get me something that he knew I would enjoy, regardless of how he may feel about the holiday or the items. That is something I haven’t had in a long, long time. He’s the best ever!

I do have a gift for him, but he doesn’t get it until after work. Since he may read this if he gets a small break*** during the day, I won’t post what it is here.

Now, here is your yearly Stuology VD greetings from my favorite VD greeting card makers.

Sorry

San Francisco

It’s okay

*The site, and google’s cache of this site is blocked by my firewall at work. I’m assuming it is still at this location.

**There was one year when 0verdrive, Rorschach and his brother, A, made dinner for me, ChernobylRed, Rorscach’s wife A, and A’s soon to be wife L. It was a really good dinner, too. It was wonderful evening, and the fact that my SO didn’t bother to show up to help, but just to eat didn’t spoil the dinner. I really appreciated the effort of the other three guys.

***He’s been swamped during the day with his new job, hence the online silence from him.

I so need this

December 28th, 2004

This is perfect for me. I mean, I’m freakin’ eating right now.

We are back from spending the holiday with my family. It was a lot of fun. All the kids were there, including Madisyn’s new baby, Six-thirty*.

I’m still on vacation until January 4th. Feels good, although the house that Mac graciously helped me straighten up is a mess again after wrapping presents, bringing home new Christmas gifts, and a wedding gift. I can last only about an 1.5 hours running errands/doing chores before I feel exhausted, but I have time left on my vacation to finish my chores. I need to rearrange my kitchen to make room for all the new dishes I have received for the wedding and Christmas.

New Year’s plans are still up in the air with a few options. I personally don’t think I would have the energy to go out, and would rather spend it at a small house party rather than a large bar party. We are still weighing our options.

*I’m trying to convince Mac to allow Madisyn to name our child, but he isn’t agreeable with it.

Happy Holidays!

December 23rd, 2004

I’m about to shut down the time-sucker that is my computer and LJ. I just finished up a few things work related, and now I must wrap, wrap, wrap and pack, pack, pack and clean, clean, clean*. Be back in town on Tuesday!

I’ll leave you with this great carol that I got from roya_spirit.

Happy Holidays!

Am I the only one that hates leaving town and coming home to a messy house? We got another wonderful wedding gift from my good friend, M, and I now have packing all over my dining room table! They were like intestines–they looked small and cozy when packed-up, but when you started to unravel, it went on forever!

Oh, goodies!

December 20th, 2004

The UPS man just brought me goodies! Thanks to my good friend M for the Christmas/StuDayTM gifts. Included in this package of goodies was a book containing some writing by Chris McKitterick*. I want to lie down, crack these open and start reading rather than work. Especially since I’m feeling slightly dizzy right now.

*Now I just need to get a signature in my new book–hee-hee

I’m back from my Mother’s Day weekend visiting my family. We celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday. My mother and I started out the day by doing absolutely nothing. We just sat around being lazy. Eventually we headed out to go spend money and get groceries for the Mother’s Day BBQ.

We were joined by my sister, Madisyn, and Connor. I manned the grill with Madisyn and Connor while playing a mad-capped game of Ring Around The Rosies; Let’s Stick Leaves And Flowers In Aunt Mel’s Hair; Let’s Take Out The Leaves And Flowers And Bury Them In The Dirt; Let’s Cry Because Mom Yelled At Us To Stay Out Of The Dirt; and As Soon As Mom Goes Inside, Aunt Mel Will Let You Get In The Dirt Again*. At least this time, nobody ate any of the dirt.

As soon as dinner was over**, I headed down stairs with the kids*** to play ball with Connor and watch Toonami with Madisyn. Then I shared a bowl of ice cream with Connor****. My sister and the kids went home, and we watched Love Actually.

I had some nice relaxing family time.

*Which meant I got to play the game Aunt Mel Gets To Be The One To Clean Up The Kids For Dinner.

**There were more exciting games here too, like Count The Pickels and Immitate Everything Aunt Mel Does.

***Anything to get out of the game Aunt Mel Cleans Up The Kitchen

****The game for this one was Plead With Your Big Blue Eyes For A Bite And Because Aunt Mel Is A Sucker, She Will Give You One But Only If She Gets A Kiss But Please Wait Until You Swallow The Ice Cream–Okay, Nevermind, Too Late. This game left me as sticky as Connor was.

What a great way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo–half a day of work, lunch and my afternoon spent with my good friends Mac, Hafid, and Brett*, and then an evening spent with Mac, ChernobylRed, 0verdrive, Bellanorth, Kij, and Arian**. The best way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo–Thin Mints! Who would have thought?

*Even though there was some work involved it hardly seems like work with that group.

**Who traveled over from St. Louis to join the Lawrence group. What a delight! He did make the most of his time off.

P.S.

Happy May Day!
This is the day where you go pick people’s flowers out of their yard and leave them on their doorstep, at least that is how it was done when I was a kid. I bet people around our town hated this holiday–rotten kids.
