Ada finally started asking to cut her hair short. I’ve been suggesting it, but she has kept insisting she wanted long hair, so I let it grow. It was getting really long too! The problem? Her long, fine, really soft hair tangles. All the time. Badly. She can wake up or come home from school on a hat day and have a a tangle the size of a softball. Picking out her hair at night can take 15 – 20 minutes. I told her she is perfectly welcome to keep her hair long, but she had to realize that the pain of combing out tangles is something she has to deal with. I know because she inherited my hair and it is something I have to deal with. After my hair gets really long, I have to braid it at night to ward off tangles. And wind. You should see the tangles I have to pick out if I wear it down on a windy day.

Her choice everyday is to wear her hair in a ponytail because she hates it when it gets in her face, or gets wet when drinking water, and I get tired of cleaning food out of it. And her hair, like mine, won’t support barrets or most ponytail holders, They just slide right out, requiring hair fixing through the day, which she doesn’t do. At the end of the day, her hair is a mess.

We brushed it out this morning, and she had only one little tangle on the side. It was awesome. And she promised that she could sit still and be quiet, so we got to Integrite with the grown-ups to get it cut and have pink highlights. She loves the pink. And she really did a great job at the salon.

I didn’t take a photo of the back, but it is a graduated bob. And combing out her hair after she washes it will take a minute.

I start working again on Monday*. I like 90% of my job, so it isn’t a big deal. It will probably take a day to get my brain ramped back up. I’ve not been working on my current project since December 18th. I don’t even fully remember where I was at in this particular project.

I made a trip to KC to get my hair a much overdue cut and color. Part of the delay was procrastination and part was to grow out hair that I wanted cut off. I kept the same asymmetrical cut, but I went much shorter on my longer side. It was feeling dry and brittle from not being cut as much as the other side. I wanted to start over on that side. My hair grows pretty fast. It will only take about 4 months for it to be long again. I darkened it again, and went with red highlights–the red that matches my walls.

I’m getting a head cold, or something. I had a hard time sleeping last night, feeling a bunch of drainage that was making my throat sore. I woke up about 4 hours later, and couldn’t get back to sleep. Right now, the entire left side of my head feels like it is going to explode. I can barely hear out of my left ear. I have a feeling it will be another crappy night of sleeping.

*<strike>I actually start work at 8:00pm tonight for an outage. As long as everything goes well, it will be easy.</strike> Possible bad weather in some of our areas has postponed this until next Saturday.

Here is the hair. I wish this photo didn’t have the sunlight splotch on my cheek, but I like it anyhow, especially with the reflection in the deck door. The cut is close to the same as last time. The back has been fixed, and the long side is a little more dramatic. It took three tries, but I think we finally have my Rock Band haircut. I’m taking both Ada and James with me today to get my mother’s hair colored. This should be an adventure. Actually, I’ll take the double stroller, and Ada does pretty well in staying by me and not pulling everything off of shelves. We may even be able to shop.

Oh, the check engine light came on in the Mazda again in KC yesterday, and I lost my wedding ring. Yeah. I had a mad panic searching my house yesterday morning. Cannot find it anywhere.

Ada ate two bowls of cereal, and then James’ cereal that he wouldn’t eat and is now sitting and chanting, “Yummy! Yummy! Beer Cheese Soup!” over and over. Her dad taught her that, btw.

We decided to go ahead and get the kids pictures taken. Mac wanted to get family pictures for his Father’s day present. He agreed to my plea to wait for pictures until end of October to give me more weight loss time. In the meantime, our grandmothers have back-to-back birthdays, so we got the kids pictures taken. We are taking one for Mac’s grandmother this weekend to her birthday party. I’m going to mail a framed one to my grandmother.

My cash monies diet is working well. It was hit and miss at first with lots of fluctuations. I think I’ve finally found my calorie limit to make it work. I’ve been on it 3.5 weeks, and I hit the 8lb mark this morning.

I took a vacation day today to get other things done besides pictures. One of those things was to get my hair touched up. My roots were showing. Charity redid my color, and I love it. I’ll have to get Mac to take a picture. My cut is a little different too. I didn’t end up liking the back of my first hair cut. I still have the a-line cut, but it is textured a lot more. I like it.

Yesterday’s pour-down/hail/wind/tornadoes brought today’s sunny, lower-70s weather. A break from the 90s is hard stuff to sit inside and work through. However, I’m at home and by an open window enjoying the fresh air. None of us are at work today either. It makes it tempting to throw the afternoon of work away in favor of taking Ada to the park. Considering how much work I have to do, it would not be a good idea.

I also purchased (sorry, Mac) the new Pac-Man World Championship Edition on XBLA* for my mother to try.

Saturday, I would love to make it to the farmers’ market. I hold little hope on me getting up and navigating through both kids in time to make it out. Mac is helping someone move on Saturday, but I’m not sure what time. We have a small birthday party Saturday night that we will both attend if we can obtain babysitting. If not, then Mac will probably attend. Sunday is the series finale of The Sopranos. It is also my day for planning the meals for the next week.

I still love my hair being short. I predicted that I wouldn’t get it to look like the picture again, and I was right. The back does not work out well for me. the top, longer part does not blend into the bottom part, and the short bottom part likes to curl slightly and stick out. I don’t think I can flat iron the back of my head without burning myself. It looks better the second day, though. Today, I’m going to let it air dry and see what I can do with it. I’ve been blow drying it so far. People do say they like the cut, but it is the color that has been making the most impression–in a good way. Charity did a really good job on picking out a color for me.

What else…Oh, yes, robot fighting. McKitterick posted this, and I’m glad he did. It made my day:

A bunch of my hair is now gone! No more ponytails for me–at least not for awhile. I have a couple more shots. There isn’t a good shot of the front though. I don’ t think that I can get it to look like this myself because it required the use of a flat iron to get it that straight. Maybe I’ll invest in one. She thinned it out a little too. I love the color. I’m want to try purple (like a plum color) the next time I color it though. I also can’t wait to wash it. It always feels so good the first time you wash your hair after you cut a lot off. Ada’s reaction when I got home was great. She looked at me and half-smiled. Then she reached up and touched her hair, and then finally gave me her full smile and a "hi!"

Mac took the kids shopping while I was away. He ended up getting me a monkey cookie jar that matches the collection of monkey items that I have in my kitchen! Ada also got a coordinating sippy cup.

I was going to try to hit Penzey’s, but I didn’t get done with my hair until a little after 5:00. I had to get back to Lawrence to make dinner, so I only made a run to Whole Foods. I got some unpasteurized gruyeres and parmesan cheese, basil gnocci, coffee and hummus. Oh, and juice for me to drink on the drive back home. I want to go back to KC tomorrow so I can pick up some more summer clothes that fit me. We’ll see though.

Good thing too because I have a secret for you: I pulled out 3 gray hairs this morning. I’m sure there is more in there somewhere too. It is hard to be 24 and finding gray hair.

I also need to start researching the best way for archiving photos. I’m going to start a project to scan, retouch and archive old family photographs. Maybe you have some ideas, MB. If you are reading this that is.

I redid my nails last night, this time applying some purple. I have to do it late at night after the kids go to bed. I was so tired, and kept saying "don’t fall asleep, don’t fall asleep," but I fell asleep. Now my nails have sleep prints in them. Oh well, they were dry enough that I don’t have purple polish stuck on the sheets.
