The best headache of all!
June 1st, 2008
We are never buying ice cream again. Okay, that may be a lie–never say never. Our first batch of homemade ice cream just came out of our new ice cream maker. OMG–yummy! Mac wanted a plain vanilla, so that is what broke in the maker. It definitely needs to sit in the freezer for a couple of hours after making it, but it worked quite well. Can you say “PiƱa Colada ice cream?” Because that is what my brain is chanting over and over and over…
My brain is also saying, “I can make my own Chunky Monkey with chunks of Valrhona.”
My ass and thighs are saying, “I hope you really like the gym because we are going to have to spend a little more time there. You freakin’ sugar-holic.”
Good ideas/Bad ideas (AKA-I’m hungry)
April 11th, 2008
Did fondue ever become un-popular? I know when I was in high school, which was not in the 70s, there was a group of us that would eat fondue. It was the thing to do. I’d like to think that we were ahead of the times, but in my small town, I’d bet on us being behind it. Fondue was the only food thing that I can think of besides Dorothy Lynch salad dressing, which I guess was the cool dressing, but eh, I don’t care for it. Oh, and watching Jane Fonda workout videos while we ate Fudge Covered Oreos. We’d also drink soda throughout the day, and break was the time for M&Ms. Good thing that was a time in my life when my metabolism made it easy for me to stay thin. Egads, if I lived off that crap now, I’d look like I did when I was pregnant.
That post in my RSS feeds made me hungry for fondue. I haven’t gone to The Melting Pot for over a year. I don’t have a fondue pot either, but maybe I should get one. One of the tactics that works in getting Ada to the table to eat is finding something for her to dip her food in. Fondue is a meal made just for Ada. And the little forks are perfect for … her to gouge out an eye of the person she becomes displeased with. Hmm…rethinking the fondue idea.
Here is one more food mention. IHOP has finally gone insane.
Day 70: Garlic soba noodles
March 10th, 2008
I made soba noodles last night for dinner after Mac asked* what we where having. We all ate the noodles not in soup form, but for him I put a few in with some chicken stock. It looked good, so I did it for myself for lunch today with leftovers from last night.
It is really fast and easy to make, and extra yummy, and only one family member may not eat them again. This idea came from Heidi Swanson — one of my fav cooking sites.
My changes were small. I added some real chopped garlic right after I added spinach (instead of chard because that is what I had). Garlic cooks so quickly that I always add it last and then cook it just a wee past the point that I start smelling it. Also, I didn’t use any cheese.
*As in he used his voice to ask me! He’s speaking now! And I think he really wants food. He’s been living on ice, water and Ensure since last Tuesday.
Day 68: Asparagus
March 8th, 2008
I had forgotten that I picked up the package of ginormous asparagus at Costco. The next three nights will all need to have asparagus. Tonight I made potato soup. I brushed the asparagus with olive oil, sprinkled with sea salt, broiled on high, brushed with balsamic vinegar and boiled it again. James ate his first asparagus and potato soup tonight.
Tomorrow I’m putting some in stir fry. On Monday, I’m adding it to my garlic soba noodles. That should use it all up.
Losing weight should be cheery, so cheer up, buttercup!
December 28th, 2007
We have reservations for dinner tonight. While I’m excited to be able to go out with my husband for a nice dinner, I’m not excited because once again, I do not have anything to wear. I have a few dresses that are too big and are for summer anyhow, and one pair of ill-fitting slacks. That’s it. I have one sweater that fits, two sweaters that are too big, two shirts that fit great but one has stains on the front due to some washing machine incident* and the other I only have jeans to go with it. That’s it beside a drawer full of t-shirts–most of which are way too big. We are not going to a jeans restaurant tonight. So, I’m starting to feel grumpy about an evening that is suppose to be nice.
I’m going to attempt to find something once again, but I’m remembering my last shopping trip where anytime I found anything that I liked, they didn’t have my size. This always makes me grumpy, and I really don’t want to be grumpy for tonight.
I’m going to go shopping as soon as my jeans are out of the wash. I’m back down to one pair and I had to wash them before wearing.
I’m posting this whine because I need some good shopping mojo right now.
*I tried your suggestion, roya_spirit, and it didn’t work. All my shirts in that load are still stained.
