My first Thanksgiving prep task: Failed.
You know what I was going to do when I got home from my appointment around 10:30 this morning? Take the turkey out of the deep freeze and put it in the downstairs fridge to start defrosting. Do you know what I remembered I didn’t do around 10:30pm tonight? Take the turkey out of the deep freeze and put it in the downstairs fridge to start defrosting. I’ve lost 12 hours of precious defrosting time.
It has been one of those days.
It is only 12 lbs, so with the general rule of 5 lbs/day, perhaps I’m safe to use it Thursday early morning. I just didn’t want to take the chance. We can eat a Thanksgiving supper instead of Thanksgiving lunch if need be. Since this is a last minute change of plans, we aren’t on any timetable as to when we eat.
What’s the cost difference of fresh vs frozen?
$.99/lb for frozen and about $3-$5/lb for fresh.
I wonder if the variation is due to geography, timing, or vendor. We bought a fresh one at $1.49/lb.
You are lucky then. Maybe they are cheaper in south central Kansas where there is a lot of wild turkey hunting available. If I want to get a fresh one here, I have to get a farm raised one, and those cost between $3-$5/lb and I have to get on a list ahead of time to make sure I get one.
You could use a Wegmans.
…or a shotgun.
…or both.
If I got to choose, I’d choose Wegmans!
