Autumn Cooking…Hmmmm
The cool weather has left my house feeling cool all day. I love it. I didn’t used to love autumn, but I’m happy with 60 degree days and sweaters and cooking autumn food. Our grill suffered from cancer this year, and we didn’t swallow the cost of correcting it, so I feel like I missed out on all my summer grilling. My kitchen is currently only 70 degrees. Around dinnertime in the summer, I can’t get the kitchen below 82 and that’s with the air conditioner running.
I fired up the oven and am currently roasting some acorn squash. Tonight I’m making braised pork chops with fennel and shallots and smoked paprika, roasted acorn and ancho chili soup with sautéed mushrooms, and some baked vinegar and salt kale chips. It sounded like a really yummy autumn meal that will exhaust most of my fresh vege supply. I also have no more defrosted meat. I pulled out two containers of frozen food for the coming days. That will give me a day or two before I have to come up with a menu and restock vegetables.
We haven’t made it to Shaake’s yet, but I do plan on going. I’m ready to puree some pumpkins. I am also ready to roast seeds. I had tried a variety of flavors last year, and ended up liking my traditional salt and pepper the best. This year I will try flavoring some roasted seeds with both florida seasoned pepper and mural of flavor.
