Mama got a new pair of shoes

Ada and Jay had a nice afternoon with their aunts while Mac and I headed out for a bit. The weather right now is perfect.

I told Mac that I was going to head out on Sunday to go shopping for shoes. He decided that he was going to go with me. We headed to Target first, not for shoes, but for a tension shower curtain rod so I can add another lower level for Jay’s clothes. The closet set-up was bought and installed when it was only Ada. There were two bars on one side–one high and one low, and one bar on the other a little lower than the other side’s high. And then shelves in the middle. Ada’s side is great for Ada because she can reach her own clothes. Jay cannot. It was cheaper to get the shower curtain rod than to order another bar that we’d have to squeeze inside the small closet and screw onto the already screwed in closet system. Make sense? Probably not. The result will hopefully be that Jay will not be able to reach all of his shirts, so in the morning, he just gets his own clothes without my intervention. Jay’s combinations won’t be as interesting with Ada’s for his wardrobe consists of jeans, khakis and print tees or striped shirts. It will be pretty difficult to mis-coordinate his clothes. I’d have to hit up where McKitterick shops for that*.

We then headed to Mass street. I wanted shoes, and while it felt intimidating for me to step in there, we went to Garry Gribbles — a running store. The people that shop there are runners. The people that work there are runners. They have running histories that they publicize. They run a lot. They run marathons. They look like they run. I don’t consider myself one of them. However, I wanted help with my next pair of shoes from someone who knew what the hell they were doing. I didn’t want to tell them anything about what I thought my stride was like. They watched me, and thankfully, confirmed what I had figured out when I bought my last shoes. I’m a supinator with high arches, although my supination is very slight. I decided to get neutral shoes with my last pair, and the person helping me suggested the same thing. I’m glad there was no laughing when he measured my foot and it came out a size 6, as in, “Hahaha — good luck finding that size.” They have all different sizes and widths, so we started at a 6.5 with a greater width to allow for room for my toes. Saucony’s — much to my surprise — are my new running shoes. They were all actually very nice, and the person who helped me spent the entire time helping me as much as the guy beside him was helping the high school runner that they knew whose coach they also knew. The biggest bonus that came out of the visit is that they have socks that fit me. There are no adult women’s socks in general department stores, even the running socks, that are small enough for me. The heels are always on the back of my foot and not on my heel. Always. They have really tiny running socks that fit me correctly. The heel of the sock is at the heel of my foot. It’s amazing. X-tra small adult socks for the win. I wasn’t planning on buying socks because I have plenty of running socks, but I bought three pair anyhow. If they only had monkey socks.

*Inside joke pertaining to Ada’s fashion choices.

I LOVE Gary Gribbles. Didn’t know there was one in Larrytown. I even had a nice boy try to help me in the sports bra section once there. I did let him know that I could handle it myself -he was very relieved.

It is relatively new. I don’t remember when it opened though. For some reason, I think I was still working because someone at work asked about a running store in Lawrence, and I told them of that one.
