Dinner: Blood Orange and Ginger Glazed Goldfish
According to Jay, we ate goldfish for dinner. That’s because every fish to him is a goldfish. What we actually had was salmon cooked with a blood orange and ginger glaze. It was served with hazelnut crusted goat cheese. And mashed potatoes and applesauce, both to use up supplies and to have something the kids would eat. It turns out that both would eat the goldfish. It was the potatoes they decided they didn’t want. I got Ada to eat hers by withholding more applesauce. Jay decided to be a perfect example of bad tables manners this evening. Three strikes got him sent to his room, where he is now yelling for his daddy.
Jay also destroyed the strawberries we had planted. Joy.
I got both the front and back yard mowed before it starts raining for the week. Now, of course, it won’t. Unless I wash my car. I also did some rearranging and cleaning in the kitchen. Gone from my counter tops are my breadbox, which was not used even during the rare times that I do make bagels or bread* and my toaster, which is also rarely used because the rare bagels or bread are the only things I used it for. The toaster I’m storing in a cabinet. The breadbox is gone forever.
The kids also got haircuts today.
I’m not going to get all of my chores done tonight because I’m tired. If I can put away the mower, give the kids a bath and get the trash to the curb, then I’ll be happy to kick back in bed and read. With a drink.
Tomorrow’s big event is photographs. If the kids are in a good mood and cooperating. When they are not, I put them on hold. That’s the great part about taking the photos myself. I can wait an hour or two or a day if necessary.
*It amazed me how the bread always ended up on top of the bread box. Like it was too much bother to spend the five extra seconds it would take to put it inside the bread box.
