Yup, this is about food. Again.

I’m not really what is called a foodie, but I have some very strong opinions about food. I really do like to eat some foods in season even if I can get then year round. I love to get food locally. You can’t beat the taste of food that is in season and just picked. It doesn’t work for everything because I’d never be able to use an orange, lemon, lime, avocado or banana again, and that would be a shame. I also don’t believe in using nasty tasting substitutes in the name of “health”. You will never see me request a recipe for alfredo sauce that is missing the butter, cream and cheese. If you can’t have those for health or weight reasons, don’t eat alfredo. Ditto goes for those frozen Lean Cuisines or Healthy Choice meals.

Cheese is one of my strong opinion foods. In order to be “healthier” people substitute low fat or fat free version of cheese. In my mind, these cheeses have the equivalent texture and flavor of a car tire. My thoughts are to either don’t eat cheese or get really good, flavorful cheese and just use a small amount. If you have good cheese, you don’t need to put two inches of it on top of your food. It is a subject I thought of today because Ada and I have been on a cheese kick the last few weeks. I know when most people get their kids cheese, they go for those string cheese sticks that are neither strong in flavor, buttery or crumbly or creamy or … nothing. They’re cheap. That’s about it. Today for lunch, Ada and I shared a Stilton w/ blueberries. We have in the past three week had a Wensleydale w/ cranberries, a sheep milk cheese w/ peppercorns and of course, a goat milk that I pressed in hazelnuts. She showed her love for cheese when she was first eating solid food and would eat apples w/ 10 year aged white cheddar as a snack with me. My girl still loves cheese, and we get to share trying new ones. Buying the occasional good cheese to share with Ada is way better than constantly buying those flavorless cheese sticks. And for those who claim to not be able to afford it, then everytime you buy crappy cheese, don’t and instead set aside the money you would spend on it. You’ll probably be surprised how soon it is that you can afford good cheese just buy reducing the number of times you buy crap.

Like I said, cheese is just one of those strong food opinions that I hold.
