Kids’ Room

Nov 3rd, 2009By: Comments 1

The kids’ room is almost done. The paint is done and dry. The electric sockets have been painted and are dry, although one needs another coat*. We did their paintings today. Those are dry and hung. Here are a few photos.

I have these left to do:

  • Hang another cubby shelf on Ada’s side of the room.
  • Get a shelf for the wall at the head of Jay’s bed. We didn’t put there while he was in a crib and could pull it and stuff down, which is now not the case. Also, paint said shelf.
  • Put up the kid’s names. Ada wanted her letters. Jay doesn’t care, but with them he coordinates.
  • Find a light fixture. And then find someone to help me install it.
  • Find curtains for both the window and the closet door. We took the wood door off the closet because it kept coming out of the track and when open, it bangs up against the room door when it is open. I would rather pick out an interesting brown fabric and make curtains, but I don’t have a sewing machine. Nor have I sewn anything other then a button or mending a hem since I was 14.
  • Replace the blind because Jay bent the current one too much for it to serve its intended purpose.
  • Get Jay a twin bed. That is going to be his birthday present. We get our rewards money for our credit cards in January and February, just in time to pay for his birthday. His bed is already paid for and then some.

I also replaced the door knob on the kid’s door. Ada helped me. She got to see the inner workings of a door knob, learn the saying “Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey” and practice using a screw driver. She also just helped by holding the door. It is my goal to remove all brass or brass-colored fixture from my house. I hate them. Once I replace all the door knobs, the only thing I have left are bathroom light fixtures. I’ll have to recruit help for those as well.

The rest of the house projects that need to be done? Well, those are still on-going.

*When I redid my kitchen, I changed the color of the socket covers from those cheap off-white ones to a brushed nickel (or whatever metal). The sockets were still the off-white, which looked stupid. I found it much cheaper to get a $0.89 bottle of paint and change it rather than install new sockets. I’m still using the same bottle to paint the kids, which I changed to the same brushed nickel. I’m replacing them all upstairs. That paint will probably go bad before I run out.

**Look at Jay in that photo!!!
