Ooooooowwww

Sleeping was painful and elusive. Anytime I rolled over, shooting pain in my ankle woke me up. Lovely. The good part is that except for a few loads of laundry and a shower, I’m staying off my ankle. That means the rest of the day is reading and XBox 360. No cooking for me though. [...]

I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner

Oct 24th, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 1

I have various strategies to get the kids to pick up their stuff: doing it with them, singing songs, explaining why they need to, telling them “because I said so” and even threatening to throw toys away since they obviously do not care about them. And yes, I have followed through on the last threat. [...]

What’s Cooking Friday

Oct 23rd, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 1

Apple Cake For dinner: leftovers. There is enough of yesterday’s casserole for another day. I gave pumpkin a rest today. Yesterday I switched my strainer use back to yogurt because I’m out. I’m going to freeze what I have right now, and roast the rest of the pumpkins, perhaps on Sunday. Since I’m home, and [...]

What’s Cooking Thursday

Oct 22nd, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 0

Last night I couldn’t sleep. There was no caffeine in that dish I made yesterday, but I was still awake a little after 3:00am. That’s the last time I looked at the clock. It made 7:00am a painful experience. Ada was upset this morning because she was pretty sure the slumber party on Friday was [...]

Homemade ravioli

Oct 21st, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 0

Homemade ravioli This was my first time making ravioli. I was surprised that none of them burst open when cooking. Yippee! I lost two during the making process: one tore before I put in the pumpkin filling, so I abandoned it. The other one popped out of the mold, bounced off the plate and landed [...]

What’s Cooking Wednesday

Oct 21st, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 0

Tonight is pumpkin ravioli w/ a brown butter sage sauce. I wouldn’t have minded a salad, but when I went to gather the children for a run to the store, I found Jay asleep. I am almost not up to making anything, but I’m uninspired without any defrosted meat, tofu or fresh veges. Even taking [...]

Wave Strainer Win!

Oct 21st, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 0

The wave strainer did a lovely job with the pumpkin puree. Water on the bottom, thick pumpkin puree on the top. You can do the same with cheesecloth and a fine mesh strainer, but this takes up less room in the fridge, has a lid, and you don’t have to use cheesecloth. This was recommended [...]

Jay Better, Me Not So Much

Oct 20th, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 0

Jay has gone without a fever and without Tylenol since 7:00. I can’t say the same for myself. I felt really tired and dizzy all morning, and then during lunch, I just didn’t feel like eating. I assumed that I was over-cooking so much yesterday that today I was on a food burn-out. I started [...]

My Seeds Are Cooked

Oct 19th, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 0

I really hate thinking of titles. Anyhow… I cooked two of the three because my house is joyfully tealess. I’m a coffee girl, and I have never meet a tea that I like. Except maybe some herbal “teas” that don’t actually contain tea. There is a peppermint one that I can tolerate. I made the [...]

What’s Cooking Monday

Oct 19th, 2009 // In: Posts // By: // Comments 0

Tonight’s meal is sort of a mish-mash of things. I have leftover ginger applesauce that I made while back that needs to be eaten. I’m going to cook a whole chicken on the grill because the weather is beautiful for grilling. I’m doing beer can chicken, except with soda because I only have bottled beer. [...]
