I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner
I have various strategies to get the kids to pick up their stuff: doing it with them, singing songs, explaining why they need to, telling them “because I said so” and even threatening to throw toys away since they obviously do not care about them. And yes, I have followed through on the last threat. Now I have a consequence to demonstrate to them why they need to pick them up. Last night we were combing the house for Ada’s sleeping bag. I was looking in their room, and I stumbled over a pile of toys on the floor. I didn’t fall, but my right ankle buckled on my graceful attempt to stay off the ground. It smarted. I’m sure I said a bad word and I limped around for a bit. I spent most of the rest of the night sitting down or laying on the sofa and didn’t think anything else about it. We were having a make-up slumber party for the one that got canceled–Mario Kart, popcorn, a movie, a fire and sleeping in the living room. I woke up in the middle of the night with my ankle really hurting and swollen. Now I can show them that I wasn’t lying when I told them that someone could get hurt.
We were in Kansas City all day. I made a trip to Pensey’s, we stopped at Costco, and I got to spend some time with my SIL for a hair refresh while Mac and the kids spent time at Chuck E. Cheese. I’m in the middle of changing hairstyles. I’ve been letting it grow for this purpose, but it was looking bad and I hadn’t had it colored for awhile. I’m hoping to be able to implement the new style in the December – February timeframe. It is time for a change. Just that tad bit of walking around has my ankle throbbing. I started hobbling, putting away our Costco and Pensey goods, emptying and reloading the dishwasher, picking up tings from last night’s party when I realized that perhaps I should just sit and rest my ankle. I’m going to change into pjs and kick back with my feet up the rest of the night.
Put the toys under their bottom sheet on their beds and make them sleep on the toys?
