What’s Cooking: Wednesday & Thursday (Also Clothes)

Ada’s New Clothes

Wednesday: brats. I was headache free yesterday. Yippee! The weather turned at the end of the day, so I fired up the grill and cooked up my odd craving. Ada and I also baked a cake yesterday. She broke all four eggs, and I only had to dig a shell out once. She can finally slow down enough and listen so I could show her how to pull apart the egg instead of squeezing the bejeezus out of the egg. We ended up not eating any of the cake last night, none of us being really in the mood except Jay. He’s always in the mood to eat. Just a taste of the frosting proved most reviewers correct in that it is too sweet even when I used way less sugar. We will see tonight how well it pairs with the cake.

Thursday: leftovers. I’m going to be more insistent that these get eaten. We have Chinese, brats and a whole other pizza dough which I may just make into breadsticks.

Yesterday, besides catching up on laundry and dishes, I put away all the kids’ autumn/winter clothes. They are mostly set except for coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, and Christmas dress clothes. I also need to pick up some leggings for some of Ada’s dresses. They go outside almost everyday at Raintree, and since Ada is in the morning, she needs something to cover her legs. I got the rain coat and boots for her just in time. She needed them on her second day.

Ada is able to wear a size 4 in a girls. She is really thrilled to enter the work of belt loops, which are harder to find on toddler sizes. I’m thrilled that I still found jeans with adjustable waist bands. They are perfect in length, but too big in the waist even with her new belt. I have the same issue with 5T. She needs it for the length, but unless they are leggings, they are too big in the waist. I’m so glad I had kids after the invention of the adjustable waist band. I took her measurements before I started shopping to help me decide on sizes, and she is just under the 90th-percentile for her height, but only a tad above the 50th-percentile for her weight.

Pictured here is her new sweater. She complains about being cold at times, so I picked her up a sweater to slip on for those occasions. She can also no longer use “I’m too cold” as an excuse not to eat dinner. I’m not sure what I can get for her “my arms are broken and I cannot reach my food” or the “my legs are full” excuse though.

I’m loving this weather, and I’m ready for autumn now. This is Kansas and only September. I’m sure we will get back up into the 90s before autumn is truly here.
