The New Paint Job
I would never have predicted that I would want to paint anything orange, let along the entire outside of my house. This is called “Sweet Orange.” It looks peach or tan or, if you are Mac, yellow depending on the sun. I really do not like gold, so the gold serif house numbers were replaced as was the light fixture. Good riddance to gold fixtures! That’s my motto.
The small indoor house project was to install a light in our shower. We have a big corner shower, but the only light fixtures are above the two sinks. Those are on both sides of the shower, so the shower wall blocks any direct light from getting in. The electrician installed it today, but he didn’t have a bulb for it claiming that the entire town was out of bulbs. I’m going to doubt that he actually went anywhere to look for one instead of assuming that it takes some sort of rare bulb that we will never be able to find once the original burns out. He said the bulb gets in tomorrow*. He is going to bring the bulb by tomorrow. I can’t wait to see this mysterious bulb.
The last big project is to replace the doors. Our house has settled enough that the doors are suffering. The front screen door is falling apart. The steel door is splitting along the top. The back screen door is warped and bowing inward and no longer latches. And Jay ripped the adjustable spring closure off. The first estimate came in at over $4000 for three doors, and we didn’t even pick out fancy doors. That’s for everything though: the doors, painting the doors, leveling and installing the doors, and tax. Friends that live just around the block said that they replaced all of their doors–with two sidelights–for a little over $3000. They did all the leveling as well. That will be our next place for an estimate. I also want to see if they will switch the front door to swing open the other way. The genius who designed the house made it so the door to the garage and the front door swing into each other, so if one is open, you will jar your shoulder out of socket when you swing open the other one expecting it to open instead of abruptly stop after catching on the open door. The electrician did that twice today. I’ve never seen anybody give a door such a dirty look. Except me, the last time I did it. The kids bedroom and closet door do the same thing. We just took the closet door off.
*Really? In where? The entire town?

Nice job with the interesting angles!
