Jay’s First Dish
When I have one of the kids help me with dinner prep, I typically go for Ada because she can actually do things. Jay has started setting the table, although I’m still leery handing him my ceramic dishes–two of which have a nice crack down the middle courtesy of him. I do let him do the flatware because he can’t damage it, although you never know what utensil you are going to have use to eat.
I was prepping for dessert–individual peach cobblers–when Jay came up and kept trying to take the knife and skins. I finally set him in his chair and gave him a big bowl, a wooden spoon and a potato masher. He then made a dish consisting of peach skins, pretzels, peanut butter, dried cherries, cheerios and walnuts. He called his dish “Apple Sauce.”

I thought you gave your son his own TV.
