Cooking rice doesn’t have to be this bad

Cooking rice in our rice cooker is a confusing and sometimes frustrating task. You wouldn’t think because there is one switch that goes to two settings: cook and warm. The problem is that I can never remember which is which, and the little icon of cooking rice confuses me because it the one that looks like it is cooking the rice is actually the one that makes it warm and doesn’t cook it and I forget every time because they are too similar. Plus, the lights. One is yellow and one is red. Guess which ones means it is cooking and which one means it isn’t? There isn’t a simple on/off switch either. It is either set to warm or cook.

What is really confusing is why I didn’t think until today to use a label maker to put words on the rice cooker so I remember which switch setting does what so I never again check on my rice 15 minutes later, and it is still sitting in luke warm water, and not cooked. And why are there not words on it to start with? The instructions are in English. The printing on the bottom is in English. Are the literate now the minority?
