The replacement is here!

UPS just delivered my replacement baking stone. This one was a little more expensive than some of the others that I have been looking at, but it got a really good America’s Test Kitchen* rating. Also, Mac searched Google for promotion codes for the place we got it and found one for 10%-off the entire order. I ordered a peel with it so I can quit sticking my arm in a 510-degree oven. I also got some yeast. I’m not sure if it was part of the promotion code, but shipping ended up being only $3.00 for everything–much less than the advertised shipping price. And they threw in a free bag of lemon poppy muffin mix. After the discounts, it cost about the same as other stones. Plus, muffins! So, if you are ordering something online and the order form has a box for a promotion code, take some extra time to search Google for one.

Tomorrow will be pizza night. Yum!

*If you have never watched America’s Test Kitchen, it is Alton Brown without the personality. It airs on PBS. I would highly recommend their Test Kitchen/Cook’s Illustrated cookbooks.

The CI’s New Best Recipe book is my go to reference guide. Great basic food with some good background on the food and prep. http://www.amazon.com/New-Best-Recipe-All-New/dp/0936184744/ref=pd_bbs_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240527670&sr=8-4

I don’t have that one yet. I may have to add it to my Mother’s Day gift basket. Their Baking Illustrated book taught me how to make yeast bread without ruining it. Those and Joy of Cooking would be the ones I would not want to give up.
