Ada’s New Dress
I really needed a new pair of jeans since the only pair that I have that fits ended up with a hole. I decided right after picking up Ada from Raintree was the perfect time, and took her with me. I’m really foolish to ever think I’d get out of a store without something for her as well. She picked out this dress, and it was on sale for a reasonable price, so I said yes. Then she wanted me to take a photo. I told her that we could take her photo in the evening, hoping she would forget. She didn’t. She would mention it to me. When Mac came out of his room*, she mentioned it to him. So we went downstairs–with her umbrella–and took a photo. This is a single strobe at 1/8 power. Practicing with her is difficult because she doesn’t hold still or fully understand directions. You just have to hope you get a good one. I really didn’t, but that is why you practice. Plus the umbrella added additional lighting difficulties with only one source. I’m going to add a v-card foam board if I can find some big enough and still need to get a sync cable or shell out bucks for a Pocket Wizard for my other strobe. Until then, I get to practice with a single light source. I was also feeling too lazy to get out my white backdrop.
Ada hit another milestone. She completely understands what a birthday is and wants to know everyday if it is her birthday yet. When I tell her no, she still has about a month to wait, she says, “Oh. Okay!” Today I accidentally said the word “cake**” and she immediately thought it was her birthday. I wonder how long after her birthday she will wonder if it is her birthday again.
*Mac is sick. This is not surprising since during Jay’s illness he would cry like his wee little heart just burst if Mac let more than an inch of space come in between them.
**I know. You don’t believe me. Like I would accidentally mention cake.

And what self-respecting little girl wouldn’t want her picture taken in her new pretty dress? Adorable.
That’s actually not that bad.
I’d shift the composition to the left a bit, and put a really big white sheet in front of your strobe. Other than that, I’m not sure I’d change anything. Well, I’d have picked a blue dress, but I digress…
