Thinking about food again

Feb 27th, 2009By: Comments 3

That is a good sign that I’m all better. I want to plan meals again. I’m *hungry*. And I went out to lunch with a coworker on Wednesday and ate sushi and it was soooo good.

I want to make dinner tonight, and I’m really craving a salad: grilled salmon marinated in blood orange vinegar and ginger with hazelnut encrusted goat cheese on top of spinach with a blood orange vinaigrette, since I’m using the vinegar for the salmon. I’d have to figure out something for the rest of my family to eat. I could get the kids to eat the goat cheese, but not the spinach and, at least with Ada, not the salmon. I’ve been having a hard time getting her to eat any kind of meat at all. Mac won’t eat the salmon or the goat cheese. I may have to save the salad for tomorrow so I can come up with a better plan to cook a meal with something everybody will eat.

Or, tonight, we could go to The Beer Place* where they can make a version of that salad for me, and the rest of the fam can get something else. It is more expensive, but less clean-up.

*That is what we call 23rd Street Brewery.

We live close to an Applebees which we pass by when we come home with the kids. Ada saw it one night and said, “I don’t want to go home, I want to go to The Apple Place.” I indulged her, and we went. It was the most awful food ever. My sandwich was cheap grocery store bread, iceberg lettuce and those deli meats you find next to the hot dogs. The kids mac & cheese was frakin’ Kraft. The part that really irked me was that the kids meal cost like $6.00 for not even half a box of Kraft. We will never, ever go there again, so the next time Ada said she wanted to go to The Apple Place, I said no. Then I suggested that we go to 23rd Street–you know, The Beer Place. Now she asks to go to The Beer Place.

The Apple Place is dead to us.
