I’m glad to see the end of the day

I thought I would work on and off during the day. That didn’t happen, and by the afternoon, I just gave up, cancelled my conference call, and took sick time the rest of the day. I was going to work now, but I’m exhausted and just don’t feel like it. My only concern is that one project is about three weeks behind, so I feel the pressure to work myself to delirium.

I took James with me in the afternoon to go pick up Ada, taking advantage of the drive-up service at Raintree. You can drive up in line in front of the door and they will bring your kid to your car and buckle them in the carseat for you. This is only the third time that I’ve used it because there are so many people waiting in line. I don’t understand it when it is mothers by themselves letting their minivan/SUV just run while they sit there chatting on their cell. I get Ada much faster by parking, turning off the car, and waiting for her by the steps. However, when I have a sick child with me that I don’t want to drag out of the car into the cold, I’ll wait in line with the rest of them. I went a little earlier, so I was forth in line and my wait was only about 10 minutes.

When James and I got back, I tried putting some food into him. He ate it, but it produced a Diaper of Doom. He then got really whiny and destructive, so I set up the recliner with my phone so Mac could IM me if he needed anything, the remote, my laptop, Jay’s pedialyte, two pillows, two afgans and most importantly the Wiimote with fresh batteries. James fell asleep on my lap instantly, and I found myself nodding off while on the Wii, so I shut it off and reclined all the way back and slept for an hour. I had a terrible dream, and woke up during the worst part to Jay screaming–not in my dream, but in real life. So now I was that horrible kind of tired that I feel when only sleeping for a small time, disturbed by my crappy dream, and Jay wouldn’t stop screaming. I got him calmed down and he fell back to sleep just as my alarm went off to pick up Ada.

Ada, who had also been up since a tad before 3:00 am, exclaimed that she wanted to go to daycare. And since she isn’t sick, I took her. She rarely ever takes a nap while everybody else does, so I proudly exclaimed that she would today, and if they had any behavior issues with her since she had to be overtired, call me and I’ll come get her. I never got a call, and when I went to pick her up, I discovered an Ada that was running all over the place being an extra special kind of crazy. I was told that not only did she not take a nap, they couldn’t even get her to lie down or sit in the corner with a book quietly like they usually do during naptime. She just kept wanting to run around being crazy. She also spent the afternoon locking other kids in the bathroom stall.

She and I had tacos for dinner, and Jay and Mac had a BRAT diet dinner. Jay cried during most of it, but Ada acted normal. I bathed her, we played her “game*” and after one adventure, she started yawning. I asked if she wanted to go to bed, and she said, “yes.” Going to bed on her own without the aid of the Magical Oven Timer is a rare treat, and a sure sign that she is exhausted. She fell asleep very quickly.

Jay, however, is still whining and semi-crying. I may pull him out here with me to get him to go to sleep in the recliner. Maybe it isn’t the end of my day afterall.
