When the daughter surpasses the mother

You, the parent, are there to help your children to learn how to walk. You can teach them words, reading, counting, arithmetic. The time always comes though when your children have learned all they can from you, and they must go elsewhere to acquire more knowledge.

Ada has learned how to sew on a button. This is her work shown in the photo. It doesn’t have the craftsmanship that would keep the button on for very long, but the basic skill of button sewing has been learned. Ada now possesses half of my sewing skills. As soon as she learns how to mend a ripped seam–a skill that I learned due to the necessity of having to repair torn but beloved dog toys–she and I will be on a level playing field.

Where do I go from here as far as this particular skill? I don’t know, but we’ll have to go there together.
