Here is some stuff
Ada went on shopping trips with me the past couple of days. She received a gift card for Borders, so I took her book shopping. I let her pick out two books, plus she grabbed one and said, “Here, this is J’s book.” On the way to checkout, Ada started wandering around the clearance bin, so I followed. I spotted The Cookie and Biscuit Bible for $4.99. This is a one-topic cookbook that I don’t have in my collection. There are tons of cookie recipes online, and I think I have over 100 e-mails in my inbox with cookie countdown recipes, but I still get enjoyment out of reading books–even cookbooks. It is also filled with fantastic photos. I sat down and read through some of it last night. A lot of the cookies look wonderful. I’m very happy with this purchase. We also picked out gifts for Mac from the kids, a replacement elastic string for Ada’s necklace, a few more kitchen storage containers for me because I love them, and groceries.
I made challah yesterday for French Toast this morning. I started a sponge yesterday to make a loaf for tonight. My new recipe for the week — curry coconut chicken casserole– was meh. I didn’t like the texture of the rice, and while there was a nice heat from the curry, you couldn’t taste it over the coconut.
My tasks for today: take a nap to try to tame headache, finish wrapping gifts, start the stew, turn the sponge into bread, make a ton of cookies. Tonight we are opening our gifts. I think that I’m getting a book because Ada brought me a wrapped gift and said, “Here mommy. Here is your book.”
Mac is taking the kids out right now so I can rest in silence.
