I’ve had the power all along!
I ended up having a change in dinner plans tonight. I got caught up in work enough that I couldn’t start the chili this afternoon. Tonight ended up being baked spinach ravioli. I set the timer on the oven, this time just to tell me to take the food out of the even. When it went off, Ada asked if it was time for bed. We told her no, that it was the dinner timer, and the beeping meant it was time to go to the table, so she just got up and went to the table and sat down for dinner without protests that she “DOESN’T LIKE IT!”
After dinner and a bath, Ada started watching WALL-E. Mac set the timer on the stove, and told Ada and James that when it went off, it was time to go to bed. It did go off, just after it was discovered that Eve didn’t have the plant. Ada came out of her television gaze with a “time for bed!” She hopped off the sofa and just went to bed.
It is a magical tool that I’ve had in my possession her entire life. I will not lament about not discovering it until now because I don’t want to jinx it. I love it!
We just ordered Ada and James a gift for Christmas. I’m going to go out and pick up books and craft supplies for stocking stuffers, and we are done. I’m really excited for Ada’s gift to arrive.

For the rest of her life she’ll be unable to cook without falling asleep.
