The Anniversary Surprise

Nov 6th, 2008By: Comments 6

I asked Mac if he wanted me to make anything else for dinner for him tonight besides my planned dinner. He said no, other than he said “crab sounds a little strange,” so I made it with leftover chicken. He said this morning that he wanted to make dessert, and it would be the best dessert ever. He even offered to pick up Ada at school and take her to daycare. We really didn’t have any plans for tonight, other than to eat dinner with our children.

I was curious to see what he was making, especially after I found a bag of fruit on top of the fridge, and he said it was for dessert tonight. While I was making dinner, he pulled a bottle of wine out of the rack and said he picked a bottle up for us for tonight. We had it with dinner. I was pleased at how well it went with the meal. At the end of dinner, he started working on the fruit, and then asked Ada if she wanted to go downstairs with him to get a surprise for me. Ada walked up to me, held her arm straight out in front of her with her palm facing me and said, “Mommy, you stay home.” They came back upstairs with flowers and a card.

Mac continued to work on the fruit while I cleaned up the table and swept the floor. Then he asked Ada if she would like to go downstairs with him to get my other surprise. I was even more surprised to have Ada walk up to me with an arm full of chocolate, and Mac with a bag full of chocolate and assorted cookies.

Then he pulled out the last surprise, which shouldn’t be for you since it is in the photo: a chocolate fountain. We celebrated our anniversary with our children dipping strawberries, bananas, grapes, apples, wafer cookies, pretzels, and shortbread cookies into chocolate. Also 1.25 of my hutch drawers are now full of assorted cookies and chocolates from World Market. It was the best dessert ever.

I posted photos of the setup and also some others from the evening.

I was going to post some recipes tonight, but I’m absolutely exhausted. I really just want to crawl into bed.

It’s not like this is big news or anything, but your husband? Made of awesome.

Your husband rocks! Jason got me a chocolate fountain for my birthday a few years ago. I love to eat the chocolate, don’t love to clean it. FYI, a baby bottle brush works wonders for getting the residue out of the center tube.

Oh, Mac picked well then. The entire thing comes apart from the base and is dishwasher safe. I just rinsed it off and put it in the dishwasher and it cleaned up fine.
