Day 185: Pancake Sunday’s New Helper

Sunday is pancake day. This morning, I decided to let Ada help me. I moved things over where she could stand on her stool and reach. I had to leave to get something, and as I walked away, I said “don’t get sugar all over the place.” Um, yeah.

She filled up most of the measuring cups with sugar, and left a good sized mound outside of the cups. She really liked helping though. I would read the measurement to her, then tell her what she needed to fill, and then let her dump it in the bowl. The sugar and flour part both required clean-up after the measuring part, so the entire process of mixing up pancake batter took about 30 minutes. I had her whisk the dry ingredients and the wet. I had to do the butter since it was hot and really get the eggs mixed in with the milk. Once I combined the two, I made sure that it was well combined, and then I handed the whisk back to her to continue while I set the oven to warm* and turned on the griddle.

The end result was yummy pancakes.

Mac was diagnosed at the end of the week with an ear infection right after James was diagnosed with his first ever ear infection. He has been taking antibiotics, but his pain is getting worse and worse. Last evening, the side of his face was swollen. It is hurting him bad enough today that he just left to go to Prompt Care. I hope they can do something to alleviate the pain, and that it is just an ear infection.

*Usually, the pancake maker fixes the pancakes and then serves them up a person at a time. That usually means that the pancake maker eats alone since everyone is done eating by the time the last pancakes are made. This morning I had the brilliant idea to set the oven to warm and put a plate in there. Then as I made pancakes I put them on the warm plate in the oven. That way we all ate pancakes together and they were all still hot.
