Day 123: Even James likes gardening

Mr. Dirty Legs was having a blast crawling around in the dirt and playing with Ada’s watering can.

I have 5 appointments within the next 1.5 weeks all for kid’s stuff. If there comes a time where Mac and I do not have the benefit of flexible hours, we’d be screwed. What do people do that do not have this? Vacation time in the US is the suck, and you’d use most of it for kid appointments. I’m often jealous of my overseas developers that dissappear from discussion lists because they are on a 2-month holiday with their family. You’re lucky here if you can take 2-weeks off in a row.

Both Ada and James have a well-check coming up. Ada turns 3 on Sunday, and James turns 15-months on Wednesday. It would be nice to do them at the same time, but noooooo. That’s not allowed. There can only be two well-check appointments a day, one at 9:10 the other at 4:10. I’m okay working my schedule around one appointment a day, but not two.

It is also looking more like we are not getting into LAP. Boo. However, we have a spot open for us now at Raintree Montessori. I’m not disappointed at all about Raintree, but I really did like LAP. That is one of the other appointments this next week. We need to start deciding soon which waiting lists we would like to put James on. Really, it is almost the case where you need to put your kid on the waiting lists before you are even pregnant. It’s getting that ridiculous. I think that I’ll ask about getting James on the list at Raintree as well if we decide to send Ada there. That’s because children that have siblings that attend get priority on the waiting list.

Also, I updated WordPress, and now my RSS feed isn’t working in that it never says that it is updated, despite all the posts that I’ve made since I updated WordPress. No error messages in parsing the feed, just no feed updates. I’m sure it is something simple as soon as I take the time to look at it. Everything else appears to be working.

And the last also: the person who wished the plague upon me, I say “thanks.” We had this huge swarm of, I don’t know, teeny flies, but not fruit flies or anything that I’ve seen before, attack our house this morning. Teeny black bodies, short legs, and one pair of really long clear wings. They covered the porch, the front door, and started coming in through the screen and the tiny crack at the bottom of the screen door and the screen of the kitchen window. There were a gazillion of them! They started crawling up and swarming James’ legs. There were about 6 birds hopping around, pecking at them, with their beaks full of them. We were stomping them, sweeping them out of the house with a broom and spraying like mad to kill them.
