Day 10: The Simple Solution
One great thing about children is their ability to declare the simple solution for a problem. Hasn’t everybody as a child thought “why doesn’t the government just make more money?” as the solution to poverty? I did.
Now is where I admit to cheating. I took this a couple of days ago. This was when my camera wasn’t working in AF, so I had to take this using MF. Although she wasn’t doing it because of that, Ada was trying to put her Mr Potato Head glasses on my lens–a fantastic childhood solution.
The prevalence of new stories like this is depressing. So, I’m going to share a kid story that isn’t. Ada and I were in bed last night for what has become our nightly ritual. Tonight I turned on music so we could read. After I played “what’s this?” in one book, read her another without her constantly trying to turn the pages and play “what’s this?”, and three flips through a pop-up, I finally had her content to look through her books by herself so I could read my book. On the beside table, there were some old photographs that I had taken out of some frames and albums so I could reuse then for new photos. I had grabbed one to use as a bookmark. It was a picture of Roe–an Australian Shepherd that belongs to an old roommate. Ada saw this picture, took it from me and declared “puppy!” Then she looked at the picture and petted it and went “awwww, puppy.” Then I continued to read while she babbled at the picture. Then I heard her say “Awwwww…puppy sad. It’s okay!” She then gave the picture a kiss, looked at the picture and went, “AHH-AHH-AHH-CHOOOO!”
That’s probably only funny to a few people*. It made me laugh.
*My nickname for this dog is BF, which stands for Biggie Fuzz. I was finding this dog’s hair in my stuff for years. Beautiful dog. I should post a photo.

The “BF” is glad he remains in your memory – and on the planet. He’s 11 this year and continues to share his fluffy cuteness with all who visit including our friends one-year-old daughter who can’t pet him enough. Maybe someday Ada can come see him along with the other more famous animals at our Zoo.
I remember BF pointing at ticks with his nose so I could get them for him. Smart dog.
