Nutrition Link

I didn’t just filter this to the SB people so I could share with all on my FL. In searching for nutrition info on the deli meat that I buy (since it is from the deli counter, it doesn’t come with information about it), I came across nutritiondata.com. What intrigued me the most is that it gives foods a rating based on certain criteria , it gives an analysis of the nutrition information in the food including the following (summarized from the site):

  • Caloric Ratio Pyramid: shows how the Calories in the food are distributed between the different macronutrients to help identify foods that best match certain diet plans, such as low-fat, low-carb, high-protein, or balanced-ratio
  • Nutrient Balance Indicator: illustrates the density of essential nutrients in this food to help create meals that are healthier and more nutritionally balanced.
  • Nutritional Target Map:shows food in relation to common nutritional goals. Foods closer to the upper right corner are Better Choices for healthy weight loss, while foods closer to the lower right corner are Better Choices for healthy weight gain.

There is also a way to explore foods in their database that have a higher rating and would be better choices for either weight loss, health or weight gain (for those lucky enough to be really working at gaining weight). There is even a glycemic load for the food for those who are watching that.

I don’t share links a lot, but I found this one useful enough to share. I even cross-posted. (Sorry for those on LJ and on my LJ rss feed)

Speaking of food, it is time to go out and make dinner, but both kids are crying and I just want to stay in the bedroom.
