Haapy 8-months to Ada

Ada is 8 months old today. It is getting really close to her 1st birthday. Exciting!

Updates

Words: She says “dada” all the freakin’ time. She will also say “baba.” She will still occationally stick out her tongue and give a big “ppppbtttttt.” She has started letting out high pitched squeals. I also started using a buzzing embouchure* on the bottom of her feet and palms of her hands because it makes her smile, and shortly after she started putting her lips together and blowing. She doesn’t make any sound yet, but she is trying.

Moving: She rolls everywhere. I mean everywhere. She does the mini-pushups, and gets up on her knees, but there is no crawling. Yet. I was on the phone in the kitchen the other day. I looked down, and Ada had rolled her way from the middle of the living room into the kitchen and was heading for underneath the table.

Grasping: She also grabs onto everything. I mean everything. So, the time has come to start baby proofing beyond just making sure things are out of her reach. I’ve seen her switch things from one hand to another a couple of times, but she doesn’t do it a lot. She has not developed a pincher grasp yet, not she she try to shove everything she gets into her mouth. A lot of times, she just wants to spank it. Everyonce in awhile, I will just put food on her tray and see if she has interest in it. Sometimes she spanks it and spreads it around. Sometimes she just looks at it. Eating it hasn’t yet interested her.

Sitting: She still isn’t stable at sitting up, but she no longer screams like somebody is killing her when you sit her up. She can hold it for awhile before she topples over. I will put one of her board books in her lap, and that has been distracting her enough that I don’t think she realizes she is sitting. She’s having too much fun turning pages and spanking her book.

Attitude: She is way more pleasant. We were able to take her out to eat. She only got whiny once where in the past she would have screamed the whole time. We were sitting diagonally from a table with a boy 2 weeks older than her. He stared at Ada almost the whole time, so I finally leaned over to Ada and said, “I think that guy is checking you out.” Ada totally dissed him, though.

I’ve also been able to take Ada to the grocery store without her having a fit. She even sits in the cart. I need more toys that hook to the cart rail so she can be entertained, but I don’t have to stop and pick up a toy every 2 minutes.
