Sharing
I rarely ever post about what new service or technology that I’m playing with, only because I assume that if I know about it, surely those who care already know as well. I know this isn’t always the case, so I thought I would start sharing even if I think that you’ve already heard about it before. So, I will share a couple.
Pandora: This is a new one pointed out to me by geekmom, and I have to say it is way cool. It uses the Music Genome project to stream a radio station with songs that are similar to an artist or song that you enter. Sign up for a free account, and you can save, um, 100 stations* and be bombarded with ads, or you can pay a $36/year subscription fee to not have advertisements. It allows you to give feedback on the current selection, and you can skip songs, although it limits how many you can skip in one hour.
Yahoo! Widgets: Yahoo! bought out a company to compete with the Google Desktop. I use Google Desktop, but if you are used to using X-Windows and window managers on Unix systems, I think you will dig Yahoo! Widgets. If you have no freakin’ idea what X-Windows is, I still think you will dig Yahoo! Widgets.
