It happened again
Ada hit growth spurt #2. Her first one was obvious and left me with the same feelings of astonishment you get when you first notice the differences of child relatives you see only once every Christmas. Only, this happened with Ada during a 4-hour nap. I heard her wake up, went to get her, and she was ginormous*.
Since then, it has been a series of I-can’t-believe-how-big-she-is-getting moments. It still astonishes me, but not on the same level that the 4-hour growing session astonished me. Until this evening when I went to wake her from a 6 hours sleeping session** and noticed her socks looked strange. My first thought was “oh, daddy put her socks on funny again***,” so I took them off and put them back on. However, her socks were still funny because the heels are on the bottom of her feet. She outgrew her socks during her nap. I swear they still fit her yesterday. I bought these socks for her a few weeks ago, and at the time they were rather large. The heel reached the bottom part of her calf. Mac also has a tendancy to pull the socks all the way up to just below her knee**** instead of folding them over. So, I unfolded the socks and they only go mid-calf instead of to right below her knee. I tried grabbing another pair out of this set just incase they shrank in the dryer, and the other pair fit the same way–with the heel on the bottom of her foot. What is even more astonishing to me are the size of these socks: 0 – 9 months. Ada will be 8 weeks next Wednesday, and she outgrew socks that are supposed to fit a baby until around 9 months in the course of a 6-hour afternoon nap.
It is still possible that the socks shrank in the dryer, even though they have been washed quite a few times and didn’t shrink before and I always dry her clothes on low. The true test will be to try a pair of sandals on her that I put on her about 4 days ago. I should be taking her footprints, but baby books just aren’t my thing and I’ve been lax about filling out anything in hers.
Well, the socks are at least long enough that she can still wear them, and the only purpose of me buying them is she takes after me and her hands and feet are ice-cold a lot of the time. They still keep her warm, even with the funny bump on the bottom of her foot.
Here is a very short game. Look at this picture and tell me how old my niece***** is going to be on her birthday next week. No fair using the internet to try to find this out. Just take a guess.
**Why can’t she have these at night during the week.
***This portrait is called, in the words of Mac, “I know you put in an order for cool parents, but sorry, you got us.”
****Hence the remark about daddy putting her socks on funny.
*****This is the niece with the purse fetish that always wants to play with my make-up when I’m back and what I hear has been asking for a toe-ring. She wasn’t mad in this picture, she was told to pose, and that is what she came up with. You should go shopping with her. It’s crazy.
